Spooktacular Thank You from The Aurora Inn Team
Where every stay is a story worth treasuring.

As autumn deepens in the heart of the White Mountains, Bartlett becomes something out of a storybook — the air crisp with pine and woodsmoke, the hills painted in amber and flame, and the evenings aglow with firelight and laughter. It’s the perfect setting for a little Halloween magic… and a heartfelt thank you from all of us at The Aurora Inn.
This season, our team wants to celebrate our guests, friends, and fellow travelers who’ve turned moments into memories here with us. Every story shared around the firepit, every cozy evening spent under our mountain skies, and every smile exchanged in our halls remind us why we love what we do.
To show our gratitude, we’re sprinkling in a few sweet surprises quite literally! ๐ฌ Throughout Halloween week, guests checking in will find treats waiting for them, because every stay deserves a touch of joy and a dash of delight.
New Hampshire’s Haunted Past: Where History Meets Halloween Trivia!
Did you know that New Hampshire has long been a land of mystery and folklore?
From the whispering pines of the White Mountains to the quiet towns nestled in the valleys, tales of haunted inns, phantom stagecoaches, and ghostly lanterns have drifted through generations.
Just a short drive from Bartlett, you’ll find Portsmouth, one of New England’s oldest seaports, famous for its colonial-era ghost tours and centuries-old cemeteries said to glow on foggy nights.
Even closer, the Mount Washington Hotel in Bretton Woods is said to have its own friendly spirit: the Princess, a gracious hostess who never truly left.
And though we can’t promise any haunted happenings here at The Aurora Inn, we do believe in a kind of magic the kind that comes from laughter echoing through the halls, the scent of cinnamon and cocoa on cool nights, and the sparkle of jack-o’-lanterns glowing softly on the porch.
The City of Portsmouth maintains six historic cemeteries:
- Point of Graves Burial Ground
- North Burial Ground
- Union Cemetery
- Pleasant Street Cemetery
- Cotton Cemetery (next to privately owned South Cemetery)
- Elmwood Cemetery (also near South Cemetery)
Together, these sites preserve nearly
400 years of community history.
In
2013, the city and the
Portsmouth Historical Society began developing a long-term restoration plan, starting with an
Existing Conditions Assessment that documented the state of five historic cemeteries to guide future preservation efforts.
